SPE CAD Mission Statement

The Color and Appearance Division of SPE strives to educate, train, inform and to provide professional interaction opportunities to the global community involved in visual performance and aesthetics of plastics.

	Our membership consists of mainly technical professionals from plastics producers, colorant and masterbatch producers, and plastics compounders and those working upstream and downstream in the supply chain. These pages serve our members and the community of plastics color specialists around the world. We engineer the color and appearance of plastics, by attending to   Selection and use of colorants and modifiers.  Measurement and matching of color.  Effects of colorants and additives on product durability and weathering.  Safety in handling, end use, and disposal or recycling.  Product quality and cost.  Equipment and processes to get the job done right.

Call for Board Nominations	Annual Board Elections of Color & Appearance Division Deadline for Nomination Submissions: January 6, 2012 The Color & Appearance Division of the SPE will be conducting its annual board elections in February 2012. The election is open to SPE members with CAD as their primary division. Time commitment is four meetings per year including those held at ANTEC and RETEC, and participation in CAD activities and initiatives. If you are interested or would like to nominate a colleague, please contact Jim Figaniak at the noted email address or phone before December 15th. Nominees must be a current member of SPE at the time of the election and during service on the CAD Board of Directors. CALL FOR PAPERS - Deadline February, 2012 The 50th Anniversary of the Society of Plastics Engineers® Color & Appearance Division RETEC® is approaching.   The 2012 CAD RETEC® committee invites you to present a paper at the upcoming conference in Louisville, KY.  Presenting at RETEC is not only an excellent tool to promote your company’s products & services in a technical forum, but is also a great way to enhance your career development.  Whether your subject is a new & current topic or a continuation of a study previously presented, the technical program committee would like to have you speak at this milestone occasion.   CAD RETEC is the premier technical conference devoted to the color & appearance of plastics.   Attendees range among technical, sales & marketing, and processing departments from many plastics producers, colorant & masterbatch providers, and plastics compounders. Papers on a variety of subjects are given consideration, and are welcome from color industry vendors as well as users & processors of colors & equipment.  Of particular interest are subjects that involve pigments, equipment, quality control, or regulations within the plastics color market.    Don’t miss the opportunity to showcase your company & information at an historic event for our industry!  The deadline for abstracts is February 2012.  For more information, please contact Johnny Suthers, Sandra Davis, or Jeff Drusda at your convenience.  CALL FOR PAPERS
	SPE ANTEC 2012 in Orlando with NPE(April 2-5) CALL FOR PAPERS --  PAPER DEADLINE- OCT 18, 2011!!! Technical paper submissions must be in much earlier than the past, becasue ANTEC is in April instead of May.  Don't miss the opportunity to present at NPE/ANTEC in 2012., which is bound to e a much larger audience   CAD will have host a full day of technical papers, followed by our annual Business meeting.  Check back here or in the ANTEC program for time and date of the CAD SESSIONS.

	SPE CAD is proud to sponsor and manage the Endowment Scholarship Program.  Each year up to 5 college scholarships are awarded to students pursuing technical degress with an interest in the coloring of plastics industry.  The Endowment Fund was built over the years by proceeds from CAD RETECs.  Scholarship awards began in 2006 when the Endowment fund became large enough to be self-sustaining.  Since 2006, we've awarded $68,000 to students enrolled in in courses related to the plastics industry.  Scholarship Applications:  Now accepting applications for scholarships for 2011-2012 school year!   Deadline for application submittal:  July 1, 2011.
